Rocks are part of the Environment in FrontierVille. They can be cleared from the Homestead for 1 Energy. They can also be bought from the Decorations tab of the Market for 
8 Horseshoes. From clearing Rocks, the Pioneer will gain: 3 Coins and 2 XP.
